A mammal of the carnivorous cat family (illustration) that resembles a leopard but is smaller and has a long tail. It is also called the Taiwanese tiger or the Taiwanese leopard. It is found from Nepal and Sikkim eastward to southern China, Hainan Island, and Taiwan, and southward to Sumatra and Borneo. Its body length is 62-107 cm, its tail length 61-91 cm, and its weight 16-23 kg. Its body is sturdy, with a long torso and short limbs. Its head is narrow, and its upper canine teeth are the longest of any living cat. Its body has dark brown spots and stripes on a gray-brown to yellow-brown background, and 6-8 large dark spots form on the sides of its body, the leading and trailing edges of which are bordered in black.

ヒョウに似ているが小さく，尾が長い食肉目ネコ科の哺乳類（イラスト）。タカサゴヒョウ，タイワントラともいう。ネパール，シッキムから東は中国南部，海南島，台湾まで，南はスマトラ島，ボルネオ島まで分布。体長62～107cm，尾長61～91cm，体重16～23kg。体はがんじょうで胴が長く，四肢が短い。頭は幅が狭く，上あごの犬歯が現生ネコ類中もっとも長い。体には灰褐色～黄褐色の地に，黒褐色の斑点と縞があり，体側では6～8個の大きな暗色の斑紋を形成し，それらの前縁と後縁は黒色で縁取られる。
