Japanese: 掛川[市] - かけがわ

A city in the southern part of Shizuoka Prefecture. It was incorporated as a city in 1954. It straddles the mountain range at the southern end of the Akaishi Mountains and the alluvial lowlands of a tributary of the Ota River, and faces the Enshu Nada Sea to the south. It is a major tea-producing region, with most of the fields being tea plantations. The city center developed as a castle town and a post town on the Tokaido road. Tea processing and trading, rose cultivation, pig farming, and greenhouse horticulture are also thriving. The Tokaido Main Line and the Shinkansen run through the city, and the Tenryu Hamanako Railway branches off here. In December 1993, the Kakegawa Interchange was opened on the Tomei Expressway. There are factories that produce musical instruments, auto parts, chemicals, and more. Nissaka in the east was also a former post town on the Tokaido road, and is famous for Sayano-Nakayama. In April 2005, Ogasa District's Osuka Town and Daito Town were incorporated. 265.69 ^km2 . 116,363 people (2010).

静岡県南部の市。1954年市制。赤石山脈南端の山地と太田川支流の沖積低地にまたがり，南部は遠州灘に面し，畑の大半を茶園が占める茶の大産地。中心市街は城下町，東海道の宿場町として発達。茶の加工・取引，バラ栽培，養豚，施設園芸も盛ん。東海道本線，新幹線が通じ天竜浜名湖鉄道が分岐，1993年12月東名高速道路に掛川インターチェンジが開設された。楽器，自動車部品，化学などの工場が立地。東部の日坂(にっさか)も東海道の旧宿場町で，佐夜ノ中山で有名。2005年４月小笠郡大須賀町，大東町を編入。265.69km²。11万6363人（2010）。
