Guernsey [island] - Guernsey
An island in the southern part of the English Channel, one of the British Channel Islands. Known as the birthplace of the Guernsey dairy breed, cattle are raised here. Other crops include tomatoes, persimmons, and stone. Settled by Norman people from Normandy in the 11th century. The main city is St. Peter Port. Administratively, it includes the islands of Alderney and Sark. 63 km2 . Approximately 59,800 people (2001).
