La Paz (English spelling)

Japanese: ラ・パス(英語表記)La Paz
La Paz (English spelling)
The de facto capital of Bolivia (the constitutional capital is Sucre). It is home to the presidential palace, other administrative agencies, and the National Assembly. Its population was 784,976 (1993). It is located in a bowl-shaped area that descends from the Altiplano (high plain) in western Bolivia, and with the city center at an elevation of 3,600 meters, it is the highest capital city in the world. It was founded by the Spaniards in 1548. The reason this land was chosen as a stopover between the Potosi silver mines and Lima, where the viceroyalty is located, was because it is in a valley, sheltered from the cold winds, and because there are gold mines there.

La Paz

It is the capital of Baja California Sur in northwestern Mexico. Its population is 137,641 (1990), a little over one-third of the state's population. The average annual temperature is 24°C, and the average annual precipitation is 205mm. It is a major fishing port facing the Gulf of California, and is blessed with marine resources such as sardines, tuna, and bonito, and Japanese marine-related companies have also established operations there. Construction of the city began by Jesuits in the early 18th century, but agricultural development was undertaken in the early 19th century to supply food to ships, laying the foundations for its development. In 1974, Baja California was elevated from a territory to a state, and the state of Baja California Sur was born.
