British India Round Table Conference

A conference to draft the Government of India Act, attended by representatives of the British Conservative, Liberal and Labour parties, and Indian political leaders and princely states appointed by the Viceroy of India. Three conferences were held in London between November 1930 and the end of 1932. The conference was scheduled to be held in August 1929 by Governor Irwin after receiving the Simon Commission report, but the Indian National Congress was not invited to the first conference because its leaders were in detention for the Satyagraha movement, and Gandhi attended the second conference alone. The conference presented the MacDonald ruling on the communal issue, which granted separate representation to untouchables. The principles confirmed by the Round Table Conference were submitted as a White Paper to a Joint Committee of the British Parliament, and became the basis of the Government Act of 1935.

イギリスの保守、自由、労働3党代表と、インド総督の任命したインド政界指導者および藩王国代表とによるインド統治法起案のための会議。1930年11月から1932年末まで3回にわたりロンドンで開かれた。会議は、1929年8月にアーウィン総督がサイモン委員会報告を受けて開催を予定していたが、インド国民会議派は幹部がサティヤーグラハ運動のかどで拘禁中のため第1回には招かれず、第2回にガンディーが単身出席した。会議ではコミュナル（宗派集団、身分集団）問題に関するマクドナルド裁定が示され、不可触民にも分離代表権が付与された。円卓会議の確認した諸原則は白書としてイギリス国会合同委員会に提出され、1935年統治法の基礎となった。
