Rach Gia (English spelling)

Japanese: ラチジャー（英語表記）Rach Gia

A port city in southwest Vietnam, 200 km southwest of Ho Chi Minh City. Population 141,000 (1992). It faces Lachi Gia Bay in the southeastern Gulf of Siam. It is a lowland area 1.5 m above sea level, and the surrounding area is a newly developed area of the Mekong Delta, with waterways crisscrossing it. The land behind is low-lying, so floating rice is cultivated, but the area around Lachi Gia has good drainage and is cultivated with transplants once a rainy season. A canal runs to Long Xuyen along the main Mekong River, and there is inland waterway access to Ho Chi Minh City.

ベトナム南西部，ホー･チ･ミン市の南西200kmにある港市。人口14万1000(1992)。シャム湾南東部のラチジャー湾に臨む。標高1.5mの低地で，付近一帯はメコン･デルタの新開拓地にあたり，水路が縦横に走る。背後地は地盤が低いために浮稲栽培が行われるが，ラチジャー付近は排水がよいので雨季1回の移植栽培地域である。メコン川本流に沿うロンスエンまで運河が通じ，さらにホー･チ･ミン市まで内陸水路で連絡できる。
