Banboku Ohno

Japanese: 大野伴睦 - おおのばんぼく
Banboku Ohno
Born: September 20, 1890 in Gifu
Died May 29, 1964. Tokyo politician. In 1913, he participated in the movement to protect the constitution and the Hibiya Riots, dropped out of Meiji University, and joined the Rikken Seiyukai parliamentary group. In 1922, he was elected to the Tokyo City Council. Since then, he has been a direct descendant of Ichiro Hatoyama. In 1930, he was elected to the House of Representatives. He was elected 13 times until his death, except for the 1942 Imperial Rule Assistance Election, in which he was not recommended. He participated in the formation of the Liberal Party in 1945. He became its Secretary-General in 1947, but was implicated in the Showa Denko Scandal in 1948. He was found not guilty in 1952 and returned to the front line, becoming Speaker of the House of Representatives in the same year. His greatest political achievement was in 1954, as Chairman of the Liberal Party's General Affairs Committee, working with Democratic Party leader Miki Takeyoshi to promote a conservative merger. When the Liberal Democratic Party was founded, he became acting president of the party. In 1957, he became vice president under President Kishi Nobusuke, but the secret agreement between him and Kishi to become president is well known. He served as vice president again under the Ikeda administration and died in that position. He hated bureaucrats and was a typical example of an old-style party politician.
