The current dynasty of Thailand. It was founded in 1782 by the military commander Chakri (later Rama I) with Bangkok as its capital after the mental breakdown of King Taksin of the Thonburi dynasty. It is also called the Chakri dynasty or the Bangkok dynasty after its founder's name. The sixth king, Wachirawut, started the custom of calling the successive kings of this dynasty Rama IX. The military threat from Burma to the west, which still existed during the reign of Rama I and II, finally disappeared during the reign of Rama III, when the British began colonizing Burma, and it was possible to establish suzerainty over Laos, Cambodia, and the Malay countries, and to concentrate on managing the country.

タイの現王朝。トンブリー朝のタークシン王が精神錯乱に陥った後を受けて，軍の最高司令官チャクリ(のちのラーマ1世)が1782年バンコクを首都として創始した。始祖の名にちなんでチャクリ朝またはバンコク朝とも呼ばれる。6代目の王ワチラウットは，この王朝の歴代の王をラーマ何世と呼ぶ習慣を始めた。現国王プーミポン･アドゥンヤデートはラーマ9世。　ラーマ1世と2世の時代になおも存在していた西方ビルマからの軍事的脅威は，イギリスによるビルマの植民地化が開始されるラーマ3世の治世となってようやく消滅し，ラオス，カンボジアおよびマレー諸国に対する宗主権の確立，国内の経営に専念できる状況が生まれた。
