〘Noun〙 Buddhist term. A Buddhist ceremony in which people dress up as the 25 bodhisattvas who come to welcome all living beings and lead them to the Pure Land. It is said to have been started by Genshin. The most famous one is held every year on May 14th (formerly on March 14th on the lunar calendar ) at Taimadera Temple in Nara Prefecture. It is a welcoming ceremony (gosho-e) . It is a memorial service (nerikuyo) .
