…Emperor Heizei ordered all kokushi (provincial governors), shrines, and noble families and old families throughout the country to report on their handed-down prescriptions, and had Izumo Hirosada and Abe Masanao edit these, resulting in the publication of the 100-volume Daido Ruijuho in 808 (Daido 3). Furthermore, during the Jogan era (859-877) of Emperor Seiwa, the 50-volume Kinranho was created. These two books are the oldest medical books in Japan. …
