Japanese: ホラゴケ（英語表記）Vandenboschia radicans (Sw.) Copel.

An evergreen small fern that grows on rocks in poorly lit forests. It belongs to the family Hymenophyllaceae. The name "Horagoke" means "cave moss" and was given to it because it grows in damp rock caves. The rhizomes are long and densely covered with black-brown hairs. They grow branching and tangle as they spread out, forming a mat-like structure. The leaf blades are broadly egg-lanceolate and divided 2-3 times into pinnate parts. The intumescent membrane is cup-shaped and the sporangium bed is long and elongated. The leaf surface is made up of a single cell layer, but in dim forest floors, it can appear dark green depending on the light.

光の乏しい林内の岩上などに生育する常緑性の小シダ。コケシノブ科に属する。ホラゴケは洞苔の意で，湿った岩洞に生ずることから名づけられた。根茎は長くはい，黒褐色の毛を密生する。分枝しながら伸び，もつれ合って広がるので，全体としてマット状になる。葉身は広卵状披針形，2～3回羽状に分裂する。包膜はコップ状で，胞子囊床が長く伸びる。葉面は細胞層1層でできているが，薄暗い林床などでは，光の加減で暗緑色にみえる。
