April 16 Incident

The Communist Party crackdown of 1929. Having escaped the mass arrests made during the March 15 Incident the previous year, Watanabe Masanosuke, Nabeyama Sadachika, Ichikawa Shoichi and others attempted to rebuild the party organization, and in the midst of successive intermediate arrests, they launched campaigns such as republishing Akahata, opposing the invasion of China, and preventing the revision of the Peace Preservation Law. After a provisional leadership team, they established a central leadership team in March 1929. After the March 15 Incident, the authorities revised the Peace Preservation Law, spread a Special Higher Police network across the country, and intensified their inspection and crackdown. Sensing the party's reconstruction, they began an internal investigation.

1929年の共産党弾圧事件。前年の三･一五事件の一斉検挙から逃れた渡辺政之輔，鍋山貞親，市川正一らは党組織の再建をはかり，相つぐ中間検挙のなかで，《赤旗》の再刊や中国侵略反対，治安維持法改悪阻止などの運動を繰り広げつつ，臨時指導部を経て，29年3月には中央指導部を設立した。三･一五事件後，治安維持法を改悪するとともに特高警察網を全国に張りめぐらし，視察取締りを厳重化していた取締り当局は，党の再建を察知し，内偵を進めた。
