A former town in Wake District, southeastern Okayama Prefecture. The main settlement, Yoshinaga, is on the left bank of the Kongo River, a tributary of the Yoshii River, and is served by the Sanyo Main Line. Along with the neighboring Mitsuishi district of Bizen City, it is a major producer of rosewood, with many firebrick and clay factories. The town also operates in agriculture and forestry. 岡山県南東部,和気(わけ)郡の旧町。主集落吉永は吉井川の支流金剛川左岸にあり,山陽本線が通じる。隣接の備前市三石地区とともに蝋石の大産地で,耐火煉瓦やクレーの工場が多い。農林業も営む。2005年3月和気郡日生町と備前市へ編入。88.65km2。5410人(2003)。
