Dwarf buffalo

An animal of the order Artiodactyla, family Bovidae. It is a subspecies of the African buffalo, but is rather small, standing 1.1 to 1.4 meters tall at the shoulder. Its body color is reddish brown, and it mainly lives in forests. Some scholars have suggested that this species is a separate, primitive type.

哺乳(ほにゅう)綱偶蹄(ぐうてい)目ウシ科の動物。アフリカスイギュウの1亜種であるが、やや小形で肩高1.1～1.4メートル。体色は赤褐色で、おもに森林にすむ。学者により、この種を原始的タイプの別種とする説もある。
