An acting training institute in New York, USA. Founded in 1947 by directors E. Kazan, Robert Lewis, and actress and director Cheryl Crawford, director L. Strasberg joined in the same year. Strasberg became the director in 1950 and provided a clear guiding principle for this institute, which was created to re-educate professional actors. The acting technique he systematized was an adaptation of KS Stanislavski's theory to the American climate, and is sometimes called "The Method," with both admiration for its consistency and criticism for its simplicity.

アメリカのニューヨークにある俳優教育機関。1947年，演出家E.カザン，ロバート･ルイス，女優で演出家のチェリル･クローフォードによって創設され，同年，演出家L.ストラスバーグが加わった。ストラスバーグは50年に運営責任者となり，職業俳優の再教育のためにつくられたこの機関に明確な指導理念を与えた。彼が体系化した演技術は，K.S.スタニスラフスキーの理論をアメリカの風土に移したもので，整合性への感嘆と単純さへの批判の両方をこめて〈ザ･メソッド〉と呼ばれることがある。
