Japanese:
Also - Yayu

A man of letters and haiku poet in the mid-Edo period. Born as the eldest son of Yokoi Tokihira, a senior vassal of the Owari Domain (Aichi Prefecture), he was named Tokitsura. He inherited the family headship at the age of 26, and afterwards held the positions of official servant, chief clerk, and temple and shrine magistrate, retiring at the age of 53 and retiring to Chiyutei in Maezu (Naka Ward, Nagoya City), where he spent the next 30 years devoted to a life of refined elegance. His pen name was Yayu. His other pen names included Noyu, Chiyutei, and Rain. His lineage of haiku is thought to be from the Mino school, as he respected the theories in Shiko's "Continued Five Theory" (1699) and studied under Shiko's disciple Hajo for 20 years. In addition to his style of using common conversation and plain language, he also had a light and witty flavor, which is fully displayed in his haiku collection "Uzuragoromo" (first half published in 1787). He was born with many talents and excelled in martial arts, poetry, kyoka, calligraphy, painting, and Noh. He died on June 16, 3rd year of Tenmei. He is buried at Saionji Temple in Fujigase Village, Ama County, Owari (present-day Aisai City).
