Ortega, S.

...Resistance songs created in various countries during World War II have been sung as labor songs after the war. After the war, various popular movements such as not only labor movements but also national liberation movements, anti-war movements, and anti-discrimination movements (civil rights movements) arose worldwide. In response, especially in the 1960s, new folk songs with ethnic styles such as protest songs in American folk songs (such as "We Shall Overcome," said to have been transcribed in 1940 by Pete Seeger) and the "new song" movement in Latin American folklore (such as "El pueblo unito jamás será vencido!", co-written by Sergio Ortega and Quilapajun) gained great influence. In Japan, the Labor Union Promotion Association was formed in 1897, and the marching song of a demonstration held in Tokyo on April 10 the following year is said to be the first labor song.
