A mountain located at the base of the Oshima Peninsula in southwest Hokkaido. It is one of the Shiribeshi Volcanic Group and has an elevation of 1,898 meters. It is a conical volcano and is also known as Ezo Fuji. It is located on the border of Kutchan Town, Niseko Town, Makkari Village, Kimobetsu Town, and Kyogoku Town under the jurisdiction of the Shiribeshi General Bureau. The base is Neogene, and on top of that is pyroxene andesite and shiso pyroxene andesite. At the summit is an elliptical crater with a circumference of 2 kilometers. The mountain's body has been carved by radiating valleys, and collapses significantly in early spring. Lake Half Moon on the northwest foot is thought to be the remains of an explosion crater. Up to an altitude of 650 meters, the mountain is covered with oak and Erman's birch, up to 1050 meters it is covered with Yezo spruce and Todo fir, and above that it is covered with Pumila, where alpine plants such as Miyama trillium and cowberry can be seen. The change in vertical distribution of vegetation is clearly visible, and the mountain has been designated a national natural monument as the "Alpine Plant Zone of Mount Shiribeshi". There are three trailheads: Hirafu, Makkari, Rusan, and Kyogoku. From the summit, you can enjoy magnificent views of Lake Toya, Mount Usu, and Niseko Annupuri. Potatoes, asparagus, sugar beets, and other crops are produced at the foot of the mountain. [Hideyoshi Segawa] A beautiful cone-shaped volcano (1,898m above sea level) also known as Ezo Fuji.
