Moroni (English spelling)

The capital of the island nation of Comoros, located in southeast Africa at the northern end of the Mozambique Channel between the island of Madagascar and the island of Comoros. It is located on the west coast of the country's main island, En'jajija (formerly known as Greater Comoros). It has a population of 46,000 (2007). It is a distribution center for the island's main products, such as vanilla, ylang-ylang (spice), copra, sisal, and cinnamon, and also has small-scale industries such as food processing, lumbering, and machine repair. The majority of the population is Muslim, and there are many mosques.

アフリカ南東部、マダガスカル島との間のモザンビーク海峡北端にある島国コモロの首都。同国の主島エンジャジジャ（旧称大コモロ）島西岸に位置する。人口4万6000（2007）。同島の主産物であるバニラ、イランイラン（香料）、コプラ、サイザル麻、ニッケイなどの集散地で、食品加工、製材、機械修理など小規模の工業も行われる。住民の大部分はイスラム教徒でモスクが多い。
