The capital of the island nation of Comoros, located in southeast Africa at the northern end of the Mozambique Channel between the island of Madagascar and the island of Comoros. It is located on the west coast of the country's main island, En'jajija (formerly known as Greater Comoros). It has a population of 46,000 (2007). It is a distribution center for the island's main products, such as vanilla, ylang-ylang (spice), copra, sisal, and cinnamon, and also has small-scale industries such as food processing, lumbering, and machine repair.
