Image intensifier

Japanese: 映像増倍管 - えいぞうぞうばいかん（英語表記）image intensifier

A vacuum tube that accelerates and focuses photoelectrons emitted from a photocathode by incident light, forming an image on a fluorescent screen and causing it to emit light, thereby obtaining an optical image (Figure 1). It is also called an image intensifier (abbreviated II) or image tube. It has the function of multiplying the brightness of weak light and converting invisible light images into visible images, the latter also called image converter tubes. It is used for night vision, academic research, medical purposes, etc. Night vision image intensifiers use highly sensitive multi-alkali photocathode or infrared Ag-O-Cs photocathode, and some use fiber plates on the input and output surfaces to connect two or three of them together to obtain high sensitivity.

入射光により光電面から放出された光電子を加速，集束して蛍光面に結像，発光させ，光学像を得る真空管（図1）。イメージインテンシファイア(略称I.I.)またはイメージ管とも呼ぶ。微弱光の輝度増倍や，不可視光像を可視像に変換する機能をもち，後者は像変換管とも呼ぶ。暗視用，学術研究，医療用などに使う。暗視用イメージインテンシファイアは高感度のマルチアルカリ光電面や，赤外用Ag‐O‐Cs光電面を用い，入出力面にファイバープレートを使用し2～3個連結して高感度を得るものもある。
