This is the main process of chemical weathering. A typical example is the erosion that causes karst cycles in limestone regions. When calcium carbonate is dissolved by water containing carbon dioxide, calcium bicarbonate is produced. Because this reaction is reversible, stalactites and stalagmites form in the dissolved limestone caves (limestone caves). When limestone caves formed by erosion grow large, the ground surface collapses, forming dolines.
