1873‐1956 British poet and novelist. Browning was one of his maternal ancestors. He graduated from the prestigious public school, St. Paul's Cathedral Choir School, but did not go on to university. Instead, he published his first collection of poems, Songs of Childhood (1902), while working for an oil company. He continued to sing of themes such as childhood, dreams, wonder, time, and death in a pure and innocent tone in many collections of poems, from Old Men (1913) to Trivial Thoughts (1927), The Traveller (1946), The Winged Chariot (1951), and Oh, Beautiful England (1953).
