Uno

A district of Tamano City in southern Okayama Prefecture. It used to be a farming village with salt fields, but at the end of the Meiji period, the opening of Uno Port and the National Railways Uno Line (now JR Uno Line) opened a ferry route to Takamatsu (Kagawa Prefecture), making it a gateway to Shikoku. Uno Port also functions as a port for importing foreign timber and live fish. Even after the railway ferry was abolished due to the construction of the Honshu-Shikoku Bridge, a private ferry continued to operate between Uno and Takamatsu as the Ukou route, but it was suspended with its last operation in December 2019 (Reiwa 1). National Routes 30 and 430 pass through the area.

岡山県南部、玉野市の一地区。塩田のある農村であったが、明治期の終わりに宇野港、国鉄宇野線（現、JR宇野線）の開設で、高松（香川県）まで宇高(うこう)連絡船の航路ができ、四国への玄関口となった。宇野港は外材、活魚輸入港としても機能している。本州四国連絡橋の架橋によって鉄道連絡船が廃止された後も、宇高航路として宇野―高松間を民間フェリーが就航していたが、2019年（令和1）12月の運航を最後に休止された。国道30号、430号が通じる。
