An American general food company known for its banana brand, Chiquita. Headquartered in New York. In 1899, the company was established in New Jersey as United Fruit Co., a merger between Boston Fruit Co. (established in 1885), a banana import and sales company, and a dozen affiliated companies of Minor Cooper Keith (1848-1927), who had successfully managed banana plantations in Costa Rica. Later, the company expanded its banana plantation management in Central and South America, while also moving into railroads, shipping, warehousing, insurance and other businesses, becoming a major colonial company with a near monopoly on the cultivation, import and sale of bananas in Central and South America.

バナナのブランド，チキータで知られるアメリカの総合食品会社。本社ニューヨーク。1899年，バナナの輸入販売会社ボストン･フルーツ社(1885設立)と中米のコスタリカでバナナ園経営に成功したキースMinor Cooper Keith(1848‐1927)の関連会社十数社が合併してユナイテッド･フルーツ社United Fruit Co.としてニュージャージー州に設立された。その後，中南米でのバナナ園経営を拡大する一方，鉄道，海運，倉庫，保険などの事業に進出，中南米におけるバナナの栽培，輸入，販売をほぼ独占する大植民地企業となった。
