A military commander in the late Heian period. A powerful clan leader in Mutsu. Son of Watari Tsunekiyo and adopted son of Takesada. Called Otate Gontaro . During the Gosannen War, with the support of Minamoto no Yoshiie, he defeated his half-brother Iehira and became the governor of Mutsu and Dewa. Claiming to be a member of the Fujiwara clan, he used Hiraizumi as his base and worked to introduce Kyoto culture, building Chusonji Temple. 平安後期の武将。陸奥の豪族。亘理(わたり)経清の子。武貞の養子。御館権太郎と称する。後三年の役で源義家の援助をうけて異父弟家衡を討ち、陸奥、出羽の押領使(おうりょうし)となる。藤原氏を称し、平泉を根拠地として京都文化の移入に努め、中尊寺を建立。天喜四~大治三年(一〇五六‐一一二八)
