A town in Akumi County, in the northwestern tip of Yamagata Prefecture. It occupies the southwestern foot of Mt. Chokai and the northern part of the Shonai Plain. In addition to producing rice, the town also cultivates vegetables such as radishes and watermelons. The Uetsu Main Line runs through the town. The foot of the mountain and the rocky coast are part of Chokai Quasi-National Park, and Fukura is the trailhead for Mt. Chokai. Area: 208.39 km2 . Population: 15,480 (2010).
