A typical type of zeolite mineral. Chemical formula: (Ca,Na 2 )(Al 2 Si 7 O 18 )・6H 2 O. It is a thick plate-like crystal of the monoclinic system, with cleavage parallel to the plate. It is colorless or white, but may be pale pink when coexisting with hematite. It has a vitreous luster, but in the direction of the cleavage plane it shows a pearlescent luster, and was given the name heulandite because of its luster. It is formed in the gaps and cracks of basalt, andesite, etc. by low-temperature hydrothermal action. It is often accompanied by calcite, apophyllite, etc. as coexisting minerals.
