Farting theory - Hohiron

Japanese: 放屁論 - ほうひろん
Farting theory - Hohiron
This is one of the comic works by Hiraga Gennai, a botanist and comic writer from the mid-Edo period. The main work was published in 1774 (An'ei 3), the second in 1777, and in 1780 it was published together with four other comic works by Gennai as "Furai Rokubushu." The main work uses the popular Edo Ryogokubashi entertainers who performed flatulence as material, while the second part sharply criticizes various aspects of the stagnant class-based society that lacked creativity through the mouth of the ronin Pauper Zeninai, who invented the electric light device. Though it is a short story, it is one of Gennai's masterpieces. It is included in the Complete Works of Hiraga Gennai and the Japanese Classical Literature Series.
