A hot spring in Amagi Yugashima Town, Tagata County, eastern Shizuoka Prefecture. Simple spring, gypsum spring, 50°C. It is located at the confluence of the Kano River and the Nekogoe River, at the northern foot of Mount Amagi on the Izu Peninsula. There are four baths at Nishihira no Kidachi, Seko no Taki, and Shinjuku, and the amount of hot water is plentiful. There is also a large bath called the Senninburo (bath for 1,000 people) and an open-air bath. Joren no Taki and other waterfalls are nearby, and it is convenient for visiting Amagi Pass and Haccho Pond. It is also famous as the setting for Kawabata Yasunari's The Dancing Girl of Izu. 静岡県東部,田方郡天城湯ヶ島町の温泉。単純泉,セッコウ泉,50℃。伊豆半島の天城山北麓,狩野(かの)川と猫越(ねつこ)川の合流点にある。西平ノ木立,世古の滝,新宿の4ヵ所の湯場があり,湯量は豊富。千人風呂と称する大浴場や露天風呂もある。付近に浄蓮ノ滝などがあり,天城峠や八丁池を訪れるのにも便利である。川端康成の《伊豆の踊子》の舞台としても有名である。伊豆箱根鉄道修善寺駅からバスが通じる。【榊原 貴士】
