M discontinuity surface

In 1909, Yugoslav geophysicist Andrija Mohorovičić (1857-1936) noticed that the travel time curve of an earthquake that occurred near Zagreb bent at a distance of about 200 km from the epicenter, and he thought that there was a surface where the seismic wave velocity increased rapidly at a depth of about 50 km. ...
