〘Noun〙① A general term for fruits whose skin dries out as they ripen. Fruits that become woody or leathery. 〘名〙① 成熟するに従って果皮が乾燥する果実の総称。木質または革質になる果実。果皮が自然に割れるか否かで、裂果と閉果に分けられる。前者には、莢果(きょうか)（=ダイズ）、蒴果(さっか)（=アサガオ）など、後者には穎果(えいか)（=イネ）、翅果(しか)（=カエデ）、堅果(けんか)（=ドングリ）、胞果(ほうか)（=ケイトウ）、痩果(そうか)（=タンポポ）などがある。乾燥果。⇔液果。※匏菴遺稿（1900）〈栗本鋤雲〉暁窓追録補「乾菓の柯を辞するが如し」② 果実を、日に干したり火力で乾燥させたりしたもの。ほしがき、ほしぶどうなど。
