〘名〙① 成熟するに従って果皮が乾燥する果実の総称。木質または革質になる果実。果皮が自然に割れるか否かで、裂果と閉果に分けられる。前者には、莢果(きょうか)(=ダイズ)、蒴果(さっか)(=アサガオ)など、後者には穎果(えいか)(=イネ)、翅果(しか)(=カエデ)、堅果(けんか)(=ドングリ)、胞果(ほうか)(=ケイトウ)、痩果(そうか)(=タンポポ)などがある。乾燥果。⇔液果。※匏菴遺稿(1900)〈栗本鋤雲〉暁窓追録補「乾菓の柯を辞するが如し」② 果実を、日に干したり火力で乾燥させたりしたもの。ほしがき、ほしぶどうなど。
