A method of rotating a generator using an internal combustion engine such as a diesel engine or a gasoline engine. Internal combustion engines usually use a reciprocating type, in which fuel and air are compressed in a cylinder and then exploded, and the expansion energy is converted into rotational energy by a piston-crank mechanism. There are four-stroke and two-stroke internal combustion engines, but for power generation, four-stroke diesel engines with a high compression ratio of about 15 are generally used. Although the output of diesel engines is relatively small, up to about 20,000 kW, their thermal efficiency is high at 35 to 45%, and they are easily constructed and can be started and stopped, so they are widely used for power generation on remote islands and as emergency power sources.
