Yayoi [town] - Yayoi
A former town in Minamiamabe County, southeastern Oita Prefecture. Located in the middle reaches of the Banjo River, the area is mostly forest. Rice and wheat are grown in the lowlands along the river, and kabosu and shiitake mushrooms are also produced. Factories for medical equipment and refrigeration equipment are located here. In March 2005, it was incorporated into Saiki City along with the towns of Kamiura, Ume, Tsurumi, Kamoe, Honjo, Naokawa, and Yonemizu in Minamiamabe County. Area: 82.89 km2 . Population: 7,463 (2003).

大分県南東部，南海部(みなみあまべ)郡の旧町。番匠川中流部にあたり，ほとんどが山林。川沿いの低地では米麦作が行われ，カボス，シイタケも産する。医療器具，冷凍機器工場などが立地。2005年３月南海部郡上浦町，宇目町，鶴見町，蒲江町，本匠村，直川村，米水津村と佐伯市へ編入。82.89km2。7463人（2003）。
