A town in Ibo District, Hyogo Prefecture, in the central Harima Plain, in the Hayashida River basin, a tributary of the Ibo River. Rice is grown here, and factories producing electrical appliances and other products have been established as part of the Harima coastal industrial zone. Ikaruga, in the center of the town, is where Prince Shotoku built Ikaruga Temple as a branch temple of Horyuji Temple, and in early modern times it prospered as a post town on the Saigoku Kaido road (National Route 2). Area: 22.61 km2 . Population: 33,438 (2010).

Prince Shotoku [town] [Taishi]

A town in Minamikawachi County, southeast of Osaka Prefecture, at the northern foot of the Kongo Mountains. Rice and grape cultivation are thriving. It is considered one of the centers of ancient culture, and there are many ancient tombs at the foot of Mt. Nijo. There is also Eifuku-ji Temple, which houses the mausoleum of Prince Shotoku, the tombs of four emperors, Bidatsu, Yomei, Suiko, and Kokutoku, and the grave of Ono no Imoko. The town is served by the Kintetsu Minami-Osaka Line. Area: 14.17 km2 . Population: 14,220 (2010).

兵庫県揖保(いぼ)郡,揖保川支流の林田川流域の播磨(はりま)平野中部にある町。米作を行い,播磨臨海工業地帯の一部として電気器具などの工場も進出。中心の鵤(いかるが)は聖徳太子が法隆寺別院として斑鳩(いかるが)寺を建立した地で,近世は西国街道(国道2号線)の宿場町として繁栄。22.61km2。3万3438人(2010)。

大阪府南東部,金剛山地北麓の南河内郡の町。米作とブドウ栽培が盛ん。上代文化の一中心とみられ,二上(にじょう)山麓には古墳が多く,また聖徳太子廟のある叡福(えいふく)寺,敏達・用明・推古・孝徳4天皇陵,小野妹子の墓などがある。近鉄南大阪線が通じる。14.17km2。1万4220人(2010)。
