1884‐1958 Turkish poet. Born in Üsküp (now Skopje, Yugoslavia), he studied in Paris from 1903 to 1912, and later served as ambassador to Spain and Poland, and as a member of parliament. He is said to be the last poet to uphold the traditions of classical Turkish poetry, but was also influenced by modern French symbolist poetry. He is particularly famous for his poems related to Istanbul, such as "Song of the Sea," "Silent Ship," and "City of Fantasy."
