A general term for birds of the passerine order, family Shrikes, subfamily Malaconotinae. Also known as wood shrikes. Birds of this family are medium-sized, 20-28cm long, black, gray or green above, but many species have bright colors such as red or yellow below. There are both sexes of the same color and different colors. They live alone in pairs in wetlands, sparse forests, savannahs and semi-arid areas, and are rarely seen because they move around in thick brush. スズメ目モズ科ヤブモズ亜科Malaconotinaeの鳥の総称。モリモズ類とも呼ばれる。この科の鳥は全長20~28cmの中型のモズで,上面は黒色,灰色,緑色をしているが,下面が赤色や黄色などの鮮やかな色彩をしている種が多い。雌雄同色と異色のものとがある。湿地,疎林,サバンナ,半乾燥地帯に単独かつがいですみ,よく茂ったやぶの中で行動するため,姿をみかけることは少ない。地上や地上近くで昆虫類をとり,トカゲ類,カエル類,小型のネズミ類も捕食する。
