The first world conference on Christian missions was held in Edinburgh in June 1910. It was attended by 1,355 people, including missionary organizations from various Protestant denominations and representatives of churches in mission areas. The chairman was John Raleigh Mott (1865-1955), a well-known leader of the Youth Christian Movement. At this time, the decision was made to found the International Missionary Council, marking the beginning of the world church movement in the 20th century.
