Among plant communities, thickets are a collective term for those that are mainly composed of shrubs and have a structure intermediate between forests and grasslands. There are thickets that are composed of a single species, such as bamboo thickets, and thickets with a complex structure, and some are in a climax phase and some in a transitional phase. Climax thickets develop in terrains and soil environments where forests do not develop, and are generally low in productivity. In addition, the stratigraphic structure of the community is not clear, and light often reaches the ground surface, so undergrowth plants also flourish.
