Rickets (Kurbyō)

Japanese: くる病(佝僂病) - くるびょう（英語表記）rickets

Vitamin D deficiency seen in children (in adults, vitamin D deficiency manifests as osteomalacia). Rickets means hunchback, and this disease has been known since ancient times, but its pathology was not clear for a long time. In the 17th century, F. Grisson described rickets in detail. However, it was not until the 20th century that the true nature of rickets was revealed, and in 1919, E. Mellanby of England succeeded in experimentally inducing rickets in puppies, revealing that it was vitamin D deficiency.
