Review of the Times

…When it was first published in September 1868 (the 7th year of the Tongzhi era), it was a weekly magazine called “The Church News”, but after the 300th issue, it became a monthly magazine from September 1874 to 1883, and was published under the name “The Chinese Globe Magazine”. After a six-year hiatus, in February 1889 (the 15th year of the Guangxu era), the English title was changed to “Review of the Times”, and 228 issues were published until 1908 with the support of the English, American and German Protestant organization, the Chinese Globe Society. With the slogan “Opening up the atmosphere and importing civilization”, it played a role in enlightening and promoting Western affairs to Chinese intellectuals. …
