[Folklore]
The inhabitants engaged in forestry, hunting and peddling, and lived a self-sufficient life by cultivating slash-and-burn agriculture and rotating crops such as barnyard millet, foxtail millet, potatoes and upland rice. Folk customs that evoke ancient times remain in the songs and rituals that accompany these practices, and the work of cutting off the branches of large trees that cannot be cut down when slash-and-burn agriculture, and the songs that accompany this, are particularly well known. During the tree-cutting process, people sing work songs in the morning and climb large trees, not coming down to the ground until the work is finished in the evening, using poles to move from tree to tree, and eating, drinking and defecating are also done up in the trees.
