Yasnaya Polyana

Japanese: ヤースナヤ･ポリャーナ（英語表記）Yasnaya Polyana

Located about 190 km south of Moscow, this is the birthplace of LN Tolstoy. In Russian, Yasnaya means "a meadow in a bright forest," but Yasnaya is a pronunciation of yasennaya, meaning ash tree, and well reflects the land's predominantly broad-leaved trees. To the north of this area is a large forest that was built to protect against nomadic attacks, and was part of the defense of the city of Tula in central Russia. This area is described in War and Peace as "bald mountain (Luisye Gory)."

ロシア連邦，モスクワの南方約190kmにある，L.N.トルストイの生地。ロシア語で〈明るい森の中の草地〉の意であるが，ヤースナヤは，トネリコの木を意味するヤーセンナヤyasennayaのなまりで，広葉樹を主体とする土地柄をよく現している。この地の北方には遊牧民の襲来に備えた大きな森があり，ロシアの中心部にあるトゥーラ市防衛の一翼をになっていた。この地は《戦争と平和》の中で〈禿山(ルイスイエ･ゴールイ)〉として描かれている。
