An important fast-acting phosphate fertilizer, abbreviated as "superphosphate." It is often called "ordinary superphosphate" to distinguish it from triple superphosphate, which will be described later. It is a granular product consisting of a mixture of calcium dihydrogen phosphate monohydrate (Ca(H ₂ PO ₄ ) ₂ ･H ₂ O) (water-soluble) and calcium sulfate (CaSO _{4 )} . Superphosphate is the oldest chemical fertilizer in the world. In 1839, JF von Liebig of Germany confirmed that treating bone meal with sulfuric acid was highly effective in promoting crop growth, and in 1843, JB Rose of England began producing superphosphate by treating phosphate rock with sulfuric acid.

過石と略称される重要な速効性のリン酸肥料。後述の重過リン酸石灰と区別する意味で〈普通過リン酸石灰〉と呼ぶことも多い。リン酸二水素カルシウム1水和物Ca(H₂PO₄)₂･H₂O(水溶性)と硫酸カルシウムCaSO₄との混合物からなる粒状製品である。過リン酸石灰は世界で最も古くから製造された化学肥料である。1839年にドイツのJ.F.vonリービヒは骨粉を硫酸で処理したものは作物の生育に効果が高いことを確かめ，43年にイギリスのJ.B.ローズはリン鉱石の硫酸処理による過リン酸石灰の製造を開始した。
