A former town in Toyota County in southern Hiroshima Prefecture. Most of the area is hilly, with a narrow plain on the coast. The Kure Line runs through the town. In addition to rice, mandarin oranges, grapes, and peaches are cultivated. The town also manufactures automobile and machine parts. In March 2005, the towns of Ondo, Kurahashi, and Kamagari in Aki County, and Toyohama and Toyo Towns in Toyota County were incorporated into Kure City. Area: 63.53 km2 . Population: 12,973 (2003).
