Compassion

Japanese: なさけ

It refers to warm human considerations such as compassion and consideration for others. Originally, it referred to consideration that was visible to others, so it was not used in relation to relationships between parents and children, siblings, or husband and wife. Later, it came to mean a refined mind that understands refinement, taste, and elegance, and it was further used to refer to taste and taste. From the Middle Ages onwards, it also came to refer to the feelings of attraction between men and women, the feelings of love, and the feelings of love and lust.

他にはたらきかけるあわれみ，思いやりなど，人間としてのあたたかい心づかいをいう。もとは，他人に見えるようなかたちを伴う心づかいをいったので，親子，兄弟，夫婦などの間については用いられなかった。のち，人間らしい思いやりから転じて，みやび，情趣，風流などを理解する洗練された心をいうようになり，さらに風情，趣向などをさすことばとして用いられた。また中世以降，男女が惹かれあう心，恋心をいったり，情事や好色の心をさすことばにもなった。
