A general term for a group of birds in the Phasianidae family. There are four species: the Red Junglefowl, the Grey Junglefowl, the Ceylon Junglefowl, and the Blue Junglefowl. Of these, the Red Junglefowl is considered to be the ancestor of chickens, and is similar in appearance to the Japanese local chicken. It is found from India to Southeast Asia. It lives in tropical forests, and unlike chickens, it can fly. Source : Heibonsha Encyclopedia About MyPedia Information |
