An insect of the Lepidoptera family Gelechiidae. A small moth with a span of about 1.5cm. Found almost throughout Japan, its larvae parasitize sweet potatoes and bindweeds of the Convolvulaceae family. When they infest sweet potato fields in large numbers, they can cause considerable damage. They appear several times a year, and the larvae can be seen from spring to autumn. They bend leaves, tie them with thread, and eat the inner epidermis, with the underside facing outward. Adults appear several times from spring to autumn, and those that emerge in autumn overwinter.
