Section shape steel

A type of bar. It is a steel material whose length is longer than its cross section, and whose cross section is more polygonal and flexible than that of steel bars. There are various types of steel, such as angle steel (L-shaped angle steel), channel steel (U-shaped steel), I-shaped steel, Z-shaped steel, H-shaped steel, and fence posts, depending on the cross-sectional shape of the web (height) and flange (width). Generally, steel with a side length of 100 mm or more is called large steel, steel with a side length of 50 to 100 mm is called medium steel, and steel with a side length of 50 mm or less is called small steel. There is also lightweight steel, which is made by cold forming thin steel plate, mainly for the purpose of reducing the weight of steel and saving the amount of steel used. Large and medium steel are used as architectural steel materials and structural materials, small steel is used as furniture and other components, and lightweight steel is often used in small buildings, especially wooden buildings. In recent years, as welding assembly has become more common, the demand for structural materials such as steel plates and steel pipes in addition to traditional steel bars and steel shapes has been increasing.

条鋼の一種。長さが断面より長く，断面の形状が棒鋼に比べて多角的で変形に富んだ鋼材。断面形状のウェッブ (高さ) ，フランジ (幅) により山形鋼 (L字形アングル鋼) ，溝形鋼 (U字形) ，I形鋼，Z形鋼，H形鋼，フェンスポストなど各種のものがある。一般的に辺の長さが 100mm以上を大形形鋼，50～100mmを中形形鋼，50mm以下を小形形鋼と呼び区別している。また，おもに鋼材の軽量化と使用量の節約を目的として薄鋼板を冷間成型した軽量形鋼がある。大形と中形は建築用鉄骨材，構造用材に，小形は家具，調度などの部材に，軽量形鋼は小規模建築物，特に木造建築と併用されることが多い。近年は溶接組立が一般化するに及び，棒鋼，形鋼といった従来のものに加え鋼板，鋼管などの構造用材としての需要が伸びてきている。
