Night watch - yakei (English spelling)

Japanese: 夜警 - やけい（英語表記）Night watch

Rembrandt's 1642 work, now in the collection of the Rijksmuseum, Amsterdam. Its official title is "Captain Frans. Banning Coq's Municipal Guard." It is a group portrait of the Amsterdam Musketeers' Guild. It depicts Captain Coq giving the order to depart to his lieutenant. Rather than using the parallel technique of the usual group portraits, it captures the troupe in action. Although it is commonly called the "Night Watch," after the painting was cleaned in 1946, the painting became brighter and it became clear that it was a daytime scene. A total of 31 people are depicted, of which 16 to 18 people paid him 100 guilders each to commission the painting.

レンブラントの 1642年の作品，アムステルダム国立美術館蔵。正式名称『フランス・バニング・コック隊長の市警隊』。アムステルダムのマスケット銃組合の集団肖像画。コック隊長が副隊長に出発命令を指示したところを描く。通常の集団肖像画の並列的な手法をとらず，隊の動きのなかでとらえている。ただし「夜警」と呼びならわされているが，1946年に作品を洗浄したところ画面が明るくなり，昼間の光景であることが明らかになった。また総勢 31人が描かれているが，このうち 16～18人が彼に 100ギルダーずつ支払って注文したという。
