The worship of images of genitals as having the efficacy of production and reproduction. It is mainly phallic worship, and the shape is enlarged or changed. It is related to agricultural production and is common among agricultural peoples. It is particularly well-known in India, but it was also practiced in Egypt and Greece. In India, it is the linga (phallus) and the yoni (vulva) that is worshipped in conjunction with it. In Japan, it is the object of worship of a roadside god.
